As part of preparations for its 64th National Conference, the Nigerian Library Association (NLA) has sought the support of the Niger State Government during a courtesy visit to the Director General, Schools and Education Reforms Board, Hajiya Maimuna Mohammed, under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The NLA delegation was led by its President, Dr. Lawal Umar, the Secretary, Dr. Amogu Uma-Kalu; Treasurer, Dr. Fatimah Abduldayan; Financial Secretary, Dr. Ngozi Obuchukwu; Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sylvester Ebhonu; Immediate Past President, Pst. Dr. Dominic Omokaro; and Administrative Secretary, Dr. Omoh Atsenokhan. Officials of the Niger State Chapter and Local Organizing Committee headed by the State Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu and Executive Director of the State Library Board, Mallam Haruna Ibrahim were also present.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Umar said the engagement was to formally brief the Director General, Schools and Education Reforms, Hajiya Maimuna Mohammed on the ongoing preparations for the forthcoming 64th NLA National Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) and to seek the state government’s support toward the successful hosting of the national event in July 2026. The meeting was held at the Early Child Care School, located at the Teacher's Professional Development Institute, Minna.
In her remarks, Hajiya Maimuna Mohammed welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Library Association for selecting Niger State as host of the 64th National Conference. She described the hosting as both an honour and a responsibility, assuring the Association of her support toward the success of the conference.
She noted the importance of libraries in education and pledged support in securing a suitable venue for the event".
The DG acknowledged the critical role of libraries in strengthening education, describing the library as a vital institution that actively supports teaching and learning.
She reaffirms government’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and sustaining quality standards across public schools in the state.
The Director General then conducted the delegation on a tour of a fully renovated Early Child Care School which was upgraded to international standards, showcasing remodeled classrooms, improved teaching facilities, and a modernized school library.
Members of the delegation described the transformation as impressive and commendable, noting that the scale and quality of the improvements reflect a strong commitment to enhancing learning and library services within the state’s basic and secondary education system.
Also present at the meeting were the Executive Director of the Niger State Library Board, Mallam Haruna Ibrahim; the Acting Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Garba Asab Abdullahi; and other senior officials.
The visit forms part of ongoing stakeholder engagements by the NLA aimed at ensuring a successful and impactful 64th National Conference in Niger State.
